About Us
Sinking Ship Productions, founded by Josh Luxenberg and Jon Levin, is a Brooklyn-based theater company dedicated to the unusual and the surprising. We often choose material that is not overtly theatrical, and take particular delight in finding unexpected ways to tell the story. We draw from a wide variety of techniques, including puppetry, object manipulation, music and movement, to create distinctly visual work.
Sinking Ship has created two shows, both of which premiered at the New York International Fringe Festival, Powerhouse (2009) and There Will Come Soft Rains (2008). Both played to sold-out houses and extended their runs in the FringeNYC Encores Series. Both won critical acclaim, and recognition from the festival for "Outstanding Ensemble" (Powerhouse) and "Outstanding Direction" (There Will Come Soft Rains). Sinking Ship is also a recipient of a commission from the Ensemble Studio Theater & Alfred P. Sloan Foundation for their in-development project, Flatland.
In addition to producing our own work, Sinking Ship also runs the popular bi-monthly Puppet Playlist at The Tank, which has become one of New York's premiere venues for original short-form puppetry.
