Stanislaw Lem

Stanislaw Lem is the author of "How the World Was Saved," which Sinking Ship adapted as part of There Will Come Soft Rains. He is prolific writer of science fiction. His work, written in Polish, has been among the most internationally lauded in the genre. His many novels and short story collections have been translated into 41 languages, and have sold over 27 million copies. In addition, he has published numerous nonfiction books, including collections of philosophy texts and scientific essays, and poetry.

He has won many prizes and honors for his work, including the 1973 Literary Prize of the Minister of Culture and Art, the Austrian State Prize for European Literature, the Franz Kafka Prize, and the 1979 Grand Prix de Littérature Policière for his novel Katar. His best-known novels include Solaris, His Master's Voice, and Fiasco. His work has been adapted numerous times for television, film, radio, and opera.
