List #12: The Beach Boys

Great news!

We've solidified dates and a new venue for the Beach Boys Playlist. We'll be at the Kraine Theater on E. 4th in the East Village on January 23 & 24. Those of you who submitted already, we have your submissions and we'll be in touch to confirm your availability.

If you're thinking about submitting but need some time to work on your proposal, please shoot us a quick email to let us know that you're interested. We're going to be accepting submissions on a rolling basis so we can give you as much time as possible to work on your piece. The final deadline for submissions is Tuesday January 3rd.

NOW ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS
Final deadline: Tuesday January 3, 2012
THREE SHOWS
Monday January 23: 8pm
Tuesday January 24: 7:30pm & 9:30pm

Be a part of the 12th Puppet Playlist, a bi-monthly evening of new short works of puppetry and music.

In the almost two years since the show has been running, we’ve sold out almost every performance, and more importantly, have provided a space for puppeteers to create new work in front of an always-supportive audience. Our next theme, by popular demand, will be The Beach Boys. We especially encourage you to think about doing something from Pet Sounds... because then we could call the show Pup-Pet Sounds!

Here's how it works: You create a short work of puppet theater based on or inspired by a song by The Beach Boys (probably from Pet Sounds, right? You love that album). You may choose to use music in your piece, or not. You can play a recorded track, or to have a musician play live (if you’d like to team up with one of the musicians who will be playing during the show, let us know and we’ll try to pair you up). You can choose more than one song to use in your piece. The performances will be interspersed with interpretations of songs within the theme by some of our favorite musicians (also hopefully from Pet Sounds). We strongly encourage each act to be puppet-based; however, if you make a really compelling proposal, we will also consider dance, clown, or other types of performance.

Venue, tech & other details: Puppet Playlist is presented by The Tank. Our venue is The Kraine Theater, 85 East 4th Street (between 2nd & 3rd ave)

Participate

To participate, email your idea to puppetplaylist [at] sinkingshipproductions [dot] com. Below is some information we'd like to have from you. Think of the questions as guidelines -- help us get a clear idea of who you are, what kind of work you’re interested in, and how you’re thinking about your piece. Please note that we get more submissions than we can accept.

  • Let us know what song you want to do and what ideas you have for your piece. We won't hold you to this, but again, we want to know what kind of work you're interested in. You can always change this later, including which song you're doing.
  • A short personal bio. Where have you (or your puppets) performed? What kind of work have you done? Since we don't ask for detailed proposals, we'd like to get to know something about the kind of work you're interested in. If you've already performed at Puppet Playlist and we have a copy of your bio, you don't need to include this, unless you want to add recent credits. If you're in the show, we'll also use this on our website.
  • If you have a work sample (video and/or photos), that can be very helpful for us. It’s not required, but if we haven’t seen your work, a good sample will make a big difference.
  • Let us know how you heard about us. Did you see our last show? Did one of your friends perform and tell you about it? If you've already performed at Puppet Playlist, you don't need to include this.
  • Please include your phone number.

Please Note: Each piece is STRICTLY limited to 7 minutes.

A Tip: We suggest that your proposal be something more than either a literal enactment of the story of the song or merely a puppet singing the song. Although we’ve seen this work well in the past, for the most part, successful Playlist pieces have been those that do something beyond that.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Tuesday January 3, 2012
